Mental Health Services for Newark, NJ Families
Serving Every Ward of New Jersey’s Largest City
Newark is five wards and dozens of neighborhoods — the Ironbound’s packed blocks, Vailsburg and the West Ward, Forest Hill up by Branch Brook Park, the university corridor downtown — and no two Newark households need care delivered the same way. Total Family Solutions serves Newark families through in-home clinicians, secure telehealth, and in-person visits at our office in neighboring West Orange, about fifteen minutes up I-280.
Access matters here, so two things are worth saying plainly. First, we accept New Jersey Medicaid and the major NJ FamilyCare MCO plans — Horizon, Aetna Better Health of NJ, Fidelis/WellCare, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, and Carelon Behavioral Health (Wellpoint) — alongside commercial insurance and Medicare Part B. Second, our state-contracted Intensive In-Community (IIC) program sends clinicians directly into Newark homes, which removes the transportation barrier entirely for the youth who need the most support.
We also have a long-standing commitment to first responders. Newark’s police officers, firefighters, and EMS professionals carry an extraordinary load, and our clinicians provide confidential counseling designed for the realities of that work — in person, or by telehealth at the end of a tour.

Questions From Newark Families
Do you accept NJ FamilyCare / Medicaid for Newark residents?
Yes. We participate with New Jersey Medicaid and the major NJ FamilyCare MCOs, including Horizon, Aetna Better Health of NJ, Fidelis/WellCare, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, and Carelon Behavioral Health (Wellpoint). Our insurance page has the full list.
My child was referred for IIC services. Do you come to homes in Newark?
Yes. Our Intensive In-Community clinicians work with youth and families in their homes throughout Newark — North, South, East, West, and Central wards alike.
I don’t drive. How do I actually get care?
Most Newark clients start with telehealth, which requires only a phone or computer and a private place to talk. In-home IIC services are available for qualifying youth, and if you prefer office visits, our West Orange location is reachable via the 21 bus corridor.
Do you work with police officers and firefighters?
Yes. Counseling for first responders is one of our core commitments. Sessions are confidential, scheduled around shift work, and available by telehealth or in person.
